Itunes For Mac Os X 10.3 9
Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Is there a way to 'add' classic without erasing or installing over os 10.3.9?
Yes, but how to do it depends on what exact model the machine is. What specific model is your G4? If you're not sure, what is the CPU (processor) speed, and how many processors does it have?
These articles can help identify G4 models (part 2 is for Quickslivers and later) -

Your PM8300 can not use Classic, since it can not use OSX. Classic is, specifically, OS 9 used as a program when the machine is booted to OSX. Since your 8300 can not use OSX, it can not use Classic.
However, it can use OS 9 as a boot OS; the max version of OS 9 it can use is OS 9.1. You will need to acquire a retail OS 9.1 Install CD, boot the machine to it and run the installer.
I would do this via a Clean Install method - a Clean Install will not remove anything, it just forces the installer to create a new System Folder rather than installing on top of an old one full of non-valid files.

You can also use an older retail OS 9 Install CD, and then use the OS 9.1 download update to bring it up to OS 9.1, if desired.
You can often get retail OS 9 Install CD's at sites like these -
http://store.yahoo.com/hardcoremac/index.html - Apple Reseller
http://www.applerescue.com/
EBay is another possibility.
Regardless of the source, be sure to get a retail OS 9 Install CD - those are white, with a large gold 9 on them; the retail OS 9 Install CD's have a universal installer; model-specific Install CD's do not.
Again, the maximum OS 9 Install CD your 8300 can use is a retail OS 9.1 Install CD; any newer version will not be usable.
Originally a Mac OS 9-only application, iTunes began to support Mac OS X with the release of version 1.1 in March 2001. Release 2.0 added support for a then-new product, the iPod. Version 3 dropped Mac OS 9 support but added smart playlists and a ratings system.
